FBCF tornado cleanup news:
By Ken Bouas - 6/28/2011
Overall June started off very busy and got busier. Most recently we had inundations of storm water the weekend of June 25/26 that caused additional damage to all of our buildings. Most damages were somewhat minor but we did have some significant water damage on the first floor of two buildings. This just fulfills the old adage: “When it rains, it pours!” As of today, all affected areas are once again dry and awaiting the rebuilding process.
Abatement News:
On June 9th we started the next serious phase of our cleanup and remediation work. The abatement team completed small room cleanup projects in the "A" and "B" buildings in time for VBS. They then started abating the "D" building (the old office building). As of this writing the 4th and 3rd floors are complete and the team is proceeding on the 2nd floor with it and the 1st floor to be finished by July 8th. This should complete all of the scheduled asbestos abatement work.
HVAC news:
Two small air conditioning units have been purchased and are being installed to replace units destroyed in the storm. Just in time for VBS we had cooling on the second floor of the "A" building (under the Library). Hopefully, the kitchen will have a new air conditioner by July first.
The air conditioning chiller unit for the Sanctuary foyer has been repaired. Parts for the choir room air conditioning unit arrived 6/27 and are scheduled to be installed by July first if we have sufficient dry weather.
Other building and repair news:
All four floors of the "C" building have now had partial power restored. The staff can supervise limited forays into the “C” building to obtain supplies and for puppet team practices. Note that there is no A/C in this building and many walls and carpeting have been removed.
Your trustees have now hired Doug Kouba’s architectural firm to fill our needs for an excellent project architect. Doug’s extensive knowledge of our buildings will be an outstanding blessing and assistance to our rebuilding team.
A general contractor has also been selected to head up the FBCF rebuilding team project. The trustees selected Wachter Contracting to lead in our reconstruction efforts. Thank you for your prayers in this extremely important selection. Plans are being made and drawings prepared now for the renovation process to begin. Your trustees, staff, architect and general contractor are working diligently to provide the finest, most comprehensive rebuilding plan possible, given physical building and financial restraints.
Finally, it appears at this time that our insurance carrier will be covering most, if not all of our loss and damages. Currently the cost of this project is still unknown. We solicit your prayer to this end. We know that God has greatly blessed our congregation on this site over the years. Next year at this time we will look back and see once again His Spirit is still at work at FBC Ferguson.
God has great plans for us. He will not hurt us but will help us as we remain faithful to His Word.
First Ferguson absorbs big hit from Good Friday tornado
First Baptist suffered substatial damage to several of the buildings on Friday night April 22, as a tornado raced through North County. Through God's providence there were no fatalities and few injuries.
We were more fortunate than many of those hit by this tornado. Many homes have been destroyed, many more severely damaged. Many still without power. Our prayers go out to all those affected.
While this is a challenging time it has provided a unique opportunity to reach out to our community as we have assisted in the clean-up of the neighborhoods in our area. Our members along with others from many churches have spent countless hours in this effort.
More to follow.
